Enemies Closer Movie Review

Honestly  I had no information about about Enemies Closer prior to watching the film. I usually enjoy watching films I know nothing about. This movie involves drugs and a ruthless, yet nature loving bad guy named Xander played by Van Damme. The movie opens up with border patrol agents searching for a plane that went down near an island, and drugs are suspected. Van Damme and his group pose as Royal Mounties and offer assistance, but in reality, they just wanted  the location that the plane went down. A huge fight breaks out and let me just state that Van Damme is the villian and the good guys are dispatched.

The movie progresses at a rapid pace, even though the audience is never clued in on the origins of the drugs or any other set up. The two other main characters are Henry park ranger with military experience portrayed by Tom Everett Scott and Clay (Orlando Jones) a man hell-bent on revenge because Henry got his younger brother killed.

Most of the action in Enemies Closer involves outside foot chase scenes and gun standoffs. There is some fighting, Van Damme engages in, but it is not the focus of the film. There is gun violence throughout, so be prepared as martial arts are definitely on the back burner in Enemies Closer

Sadly the dialogue in Enemies Closer is not good, and at times rather silly. Van Damme should have been given better lines, rather than spouting off about being a vegan before killing guys in cold blood. Running at barely 80 minutes until closing credits, the film wastes no time getting into the action, but because little is known about the characters, there is no impact or importance when one dies or a major event takes place.

A secondary role is filled by actress Linzey Cocker who portrays Kayla. Her character is actually given depth even though she has limited screen time. Additionally Christopher Robbie plays Sanderson, a colorful old man who lives in the forest, and just wants to be left alone.

Overall Enemies Closer was decent, but lacked depth and is one of those watch it and forget it films. I rate the film a 5 out of 10. I know how amazing Van Damme is, and Enemies Closer is not a great film for him to display them.

Dateless Series Begins Production and Kickstarter Campaign!

As a writer on an independent site I get so many notices of Kickstarter Campaigns. Mostly I ignore them because I either don't know the main person involved, or I just don't believe in the project. A couple of weeks back I was informed by Arlene Barshinger about a project called DATELESS http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/688406154/dateless-the-series-come-be-a-part-of-the-fun  

The series is a comedy in the vein of The Office meets The Dating Game.

Dateless is created by matchmaker Laura Bendixson who is also the executive producer (Facebook Link) https://www.facebook.com/HotSpotRadio Dateless is directed by Josh Hodgins 

The team has some cool ideas and set a small and reasonable opening budget at 9,200 dollars for 4 initial episodes.  The creative team is in place with full support and TV time will be available upon completion. Dan's Movie Report supports this project, and I look forward to seeing the first episode.

Producer/Actress Kristanna Loken's New Film 'Fighting For Freedom', New Trailer, Website, And Photos!

As an independent writer and supporter of thought provoking films, I am quite impressed with the trailer of the Kristanna Loken's latest effort Fighting For Freedom. See Below for link:

The powerful film delves into the complicated situation of a three year old daughter of one of the Mexican workers nabbed I.C.E. officials because she is an illegal immigrant on a family fruit farm. 

Bruce Dern (Mr. Dobbs) and his estranged Daughter  Kristanna Loken (Karen) are forced to work together despite being on opposite ends of the political spectrum.

The film is a personal journey for Kristanna, as her father Chris Loken wrote the screenplay and helped produce the film. Fighting For Freedom is based on an actual story.

Dracano Movie Review

Once again valued Dan's Movie Report readers, a trip to low budget theater. Popcorn, check, comfy chair, check, and time for liftoff! On the heels of perhaps one of the more wild titles and indie films of all time, Sharknado, in which a tornado full of sharks is unleashed, comes Dracano! What is Dracano? Read the description!



Professor Simon Lowell (Corin Nemec) developed the technology known as K.R.O.N.O.S.  is a project developed to harness the energy of a volcano, by capturing the magma chamber, and dispersing the energy. Lowell is in the middle of giving a lecture at the university he works for when a volcano erupts, he puts his plan into action.

This Dragon has a taste for hot blonde girls! HAHA! Petra is on the menu!

One of his grad students Petra (Sophie Tilson) is working on the sequencing near Mt. Baker to deploy the instruments and as the volcano erupts, she is close to the blast zone. Bang, not magma spews out , but um, wait for it, DRAGONS! Yes I said DRAGONS, dammit, I said DRAGONS!. Poor Petra is um, "dragonized", and fade to title! 

Along for the ride for this masterpiece of twisted scientific wonder, is Lowell's Daughter, Heather, played by (Mia Faith) and fellow professor Carla Simms (Victoria Pratt) The three flee into the desert, to escape threats, after his program was shut down following the mishap. Lowell, is desperate to search for answers. Professor Simms is at his side helping him. Pratt, Faith, and Nemec do a solid job here, as the three are the main focus for the majority of the film.

Carla shares a nice smile! As Victoria Pratt says on her twitter: "Fluffy, Blonde Land Mammal" is her description, I agree, very fluffy, and a blonde. 

The rest of the film is spent trying to figure out how to contain the dragon apocalypse. Expect humor, even more bizarre science, and more DRAGONS! How to save the world? How many dragons? Where do these dragons hang out, say on a lazy Sunday afternoon? Finally, what is the story of the volcano system? Watch Dracano, and trust me, you will learn everything possible about the intricacies of dragons and the magma chambers!

Wild science, dragons, gruff military personnel, probing news media, not a bad way to spend 90 minutes. The action in Dracano moves along at a decent clip, and the acting is decent. I  recommend Dracano, a 7 out of 10.

6th Annual Action Icon Awards Honors Women In Action Films!!

Amazingly enough there is still no recognition from the Academy Awards for a proper award for stunt people. The Action Icon Awards, celebrates the hard working ladies of action, and benefits The Diamond In The Raw Foundation. Although the banquet is this Sunday, November 10th, many events and workshops were held throughout the week, spotlighting various tricks of the trade.

Among the Honorees are Maggie Q for Action Icon, Boni Yanagisawa for Diamond In The Raw Award, and Tammie Baird, for Special Achievement Award.

A few categories will be decided at the event including a dynamic duo category which features the actress coupled with her stunt double. Dan's Movie Report recommends Elodie Yung and Ming Qiu for their amazing work in G.I. Joe: Retaliation for the Dynamic Duo Category!

Special ID Episode 2: Blood (Donnie Yen Inspired) Movie Review

I thoroughly enjoy reviewing short films, more often than not, the director and actors work long and hard to perfect something, hoping to get noticed by movie producers, to turn concept into reality. Last year my top short film went to Liberator, and this year Liberator is on DVD! Special ID Episode 2: Blood, is my top pick short film for 2013! The 2 minute and 53 second blast of insanity, is perhaps dare I say, one of the best film fight scenes I have ever seen. Inspired by Donnie Yen's film Special Id, Episode 2 Stars Tamiko Brownlee as The Demon and Tony Chu as The Human. This film is the second film in a innovative Donnie Yen inspired series by talented director Vlad Rimburg The film is available to watch on YouTube @

The fight setting is simple some grass and a high wall, so no escaping the pain. Tony and Tamiko crunch into each other with the same bruising precision as a doctor operating with a steady hand. 

Everything about Special ID Episode 2: Blood is top notch quality, the angles the fights are shot at allows the viewers to feel the action, not just watch it. Keep an eye for the point Tamiko's knee hits Tony's face. Rather than shy away from the impact the two pugilists relish the power and grace of the motions. Vlad shatters conventional wisdom when shooting a fight scene, and his efforts need to be witnessed on a larger scale.

Tony Chu and Tamiko Brownlee, have amazing on screen presence. The intense look on their eyes, following each blow, is palpable.  If this was filmed without credits and slick music, it would much like a real fight, and people would be suspicious. Tony Chu is such a talented all around individual behind and in front of the camera. According to the Youtube info, Tony, Vlad, and Tamiko took 4 hours choreographing and over 12 hours filming what amounted to be a shade over two minutes of actual screen time. The dedication to technique and precision is commendable. 

In my life as a writer, I have never ever watched a more amazing 3 minute blast of one on one combat such as this. Special ID Episode 2: Blood is so beautiful, like a ballet of brutality! I am humbled, by such earth shattering awesomeness! Vlad, Tony, and Tamiko! All I can say is Holy Sh#@! I rate the film a 10 out of 10, my top short film of 2013! The film set proper action parameters, and followed them perfectly. The old ECW wrestling adage applies, "This is AWESOME!"

A few final comments, I would like to see all three individuals work together on a feature length film with a solid budget in place. Tony Chu, Tamiko Brownlee, and Vlad Rimberg, are supremely talented, hardworking, and willing to adapt to a variety of settings and situations.

She fights ninjas, zombies and the all powerful Mighty Morphin Power Ninja while trying to restore her dojo and resurrect her Shadow Boss.

Helene Leclerc Heats Up The Screen in Man Of Tai Chi! New Photos and Info!

Greetings fellow Dan's Movie Report readers, Man of Tai Chi is heating up on the big screen and premiering in the U.S.! We all are lucky enough to watch Tiger Chen's rise to fame!

Not lost in the mix, however, is newcomer to the screen actress/model Helene Leclerc. Helene is from Hong Kong, and speaks five languages, and plays the role of the evil announcer in the in Man of Tai Chi. Helene has an extensive modelling background, commanding speaking voice, and is ready to break into film, watch for her, and enjoy the photos!

Chastain: Surrender To No One CD Review! Out November 19th 2013!

Greetings kind Dan's Movie Report readers, coming in 2014 will be more diversification on the site including select CD and MP3 reviews and exclusive photo shoots! 

First up on the hot list of music is the November 19th release of the first Chastain release in 22 years to feature Leather Leone on vocals! The hard hitting, old school blast of melody and crunch represents a return to the days of music, before heavy effect laden vocals and 10,000 over dubs. You will not find, bass dropouts, high pitched crooning, nor anything remotely labelled as wimpy on Surrender To No One! Dan's Movie Report is proud to be the FIRST to review this great release!

The eleven track release represents a personal venture back into music for Leather, heralded back by her undying love and respect for the Master of the Moon, and Man on the Silver Mountain, Ronnie James Dio. Chastain as well, seems to reach back, instead of the guitar virtuoso, more of a power riffing groove. 

The entire CD is full of diversity and intensity. Blistering tracks such as "Rise Up" with double bass drum beats and locomotive crunch are not the only style on Surrender To No One. The final track "Bleed Through Me" is an epic ballad, a far reaching introspective journey in my opinion for soul searching, and reaching deep inside yourself for strength and passion.

The recording is not slick like the releases of today, it harkens back to the raw undulating power deflecting tonality of the 80s, as if this CD was actually released in the 80s, an obvious and earth shattering achievement. Returning to their roots Chastain has built Surrender To No One as a masterpiece a defining 80s rock anthem for 2013! 

This CD is a recommended double purchase.  Buy and Buy a second one to give as a gift to the uninitiated 80s metal fan. I rate Surrender To No One my first PERFECT score on Dan's Movie Report of 2013 also, I added an extra point for the dedication, determination, and communication of David Chastain and Leather for making this happen. Surrender To No One Rates and impossible 11 out of 10, Like an extra credit on a test! Do the math, bang your head, and buy it! Surrender To No One! HAHA!!
